If you're thinking about starting your journey with CIMA, it's important to know how the qualification works. It’s a step-by-step process, starting with an entry-level certificate and then progressing to more advanced levels. Let’s break it down, so you know what to expect at each stage.
CIMA is a professional qualification that’s perfect if you're looking to grow in the business and accounting world. The qualification is split into two main parts:
Certificate Level (beginner level)
Professional Level (advanced, where the real action happens!)
This is the starting point! The CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting (CIMA CBA) gives you the basics of accounting, business, and management. If you’re just starting out or don’t have a business-related degree, this is the perfect place to begin your journey.
Once you’ve completed the Certificate, you’ll move to the Professional Level. This is where the real work starts, and there are three levels under it:
Here’s a quick breakdown of each level:
Operational Level: You’ll focus on managing the daily operations of a business, which means understanding processes and how to improve them. It’s a lot about getting things done on a practical level.
Management Level: This is all about managing people and resources. You’ll also work on making sure things run smoothly and efficiently in a company.
Strategic Level: At this stage, you’ll be thinking about the big picture—how businesses make decisions that affect their long-term success. It’s about creating and executing strategies that lead to growth.
What’s cool about CIMA is that each level builds on the knowledge you’ve gained from the previous one. So, you start at the CIMA CBA (Certificate Level), get the basics down, and then move up to Operational, Management, and finally Strategic levels. Each step helps you get better at understanding business, managing people, and making smart decisions that lead to success.
Once you finish all the levels, you'll be a fully qualified CIMA member. But there’s one more thing—work experience. You need to gain some practical experience to complete the full qualification, which means working in a relevant job while you’re studying.
Also, keep in mind that each level has exams that test your knowledge, and once you pass those, you can move to the next level.
Getting the full CIMA qualification is a game-changer. Not only do you get global recognition, but you also open doors to higher-paying jobs and more career opportunities. Whether you’re working in finance, accounting, or management, CIMA will give you the skills and knowledge you need to go further.
